Gifts-In-Kind
Distribution Center-
Pitt County
The Gifts In
Kind Distribution Center-Pitt County (GIK) evolved from the efforts
of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church (CMBC) providing relief to
flood victims following Hurricane Floyd in 1999. CMBC purchased several
truck loads of clothing and other personal care items from an affiliate
of Gifts In Kind International. We distributed those items and other
donations from a facility provided without charge by the City of Greenville.
We later learned
of a one-of-a-kind distribution center that had forged a unique relationship
with their local United Way and Gifts In Kind, International. They shepherded
us through the initial set-up phase and remain an important partner.
With the support
of the United Way of Pitt County we formed a collaborative relationship
with Gifts In Kind International in the fall of 2001. Our mutual mission
is to provide low- to no-cost quality products to qualifying 501(c)
3 and nonprofit human service organizations in Pitt County and the assigned
jurisdiction. Our mutual mission is to
strengthen human service organizations as they fulfill their respective
missions and improve the quality of life of clients served.
Since 2001,
we have operated from a 10,000 square foot warehouse in a business park
just west of Greenville, North Carolina. We continue to grow relationships
with local, regional and national donors including NAEIR.
Gifts
In Kind International recognized our distribution center with two of
their annual awards in our first three years of operation. In 2002,
they recognized us for our excellence in marketing and engaging all
the components of our local media. In 2003, we received their highest
award (Pinnacle Award) for excellence in our total program.
